ODIHR Report on the Human Rights Situation of Internally Displaced Roma People in Ukraine

In line with the mandate provided by the Action Plan on Improving the Situation of Roma and Sinti within the OSCE Area, ODIHR organized a human rights monitoring visit to Uzhhorod, Ukraine, from 2 to 7 November 2022. The aim was to investigate alleged human rights violations and, in particular, discrimination experienced by Roma since 24 February 2022. A monitoring team gathered mainly first-hand information from Roma individuals who had been subject to forced displacement within the country.

Sir Paul Lever is a British diplomat. He was the member of delegation of the United Kingdom to the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (CSCE) that negotiated the Helsinki Final Act in 1975, he was a head of the UK delegation to the talks in Helsinki in 1992. In this interview, concluded as a part of the project of the OSCE Documentation Centre in Prague, Sir Paul Lever describes the road that led from Helsinki to the negotiation of the Charter for a New Europe in Paris in 1990. He reflects on the significance of the Charter and its legacy for the present day. He spoke with former OSCE researcher-in-residence Jakub Csabay.
