OSCE supports environmental summer camps for schoolchildren in Ukraine
50 schoolchildren from Ukraine discussed environmental protection and sustainable development during a summer camp in the Khmelnystkyi region on 28-30 June 2012. The three-day camp was supported by OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine (PCU) and the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports.
The students learned about international documents on the interaction between state authorities and the public on environment protection matters, including access to public information, citizens’ participation and access to justice. They also engaged in practical exercises focusing on sustainable development issues, including natural resources protection and conservation.
In July, two more summer camps were organized in the Mykolayiv and Ternopil regions of Ukraine. The summer camps were held as part of a PCU project aimed at environmental education in secondary schools in Ukraine. In 2012-2013, the project is being implemented with support from the governments of the United States of America and Germany.
