OSCE Mission to Moldova welcomes resumption of railway traffic across Transdniestria
CHISINAU, 27 April 2012 - The Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova welcomed today the resumption of railway traffic across Transdniestria after a six year hiatus, officially agreed by Moldovan Prime Minister Vladimir Filat and Transdniestrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk.
The agreement will facilitate the transportation of goods and passengers between Moldova, Ukraine and Russia.
“The railway agreement shows a new level of trust between the parties. I welcome the positive impact this agreement will have on people’s everyday lives, facilitating faster travel for all, and more efficient and economical transport of goods and services," said Ambassador Jennifer Brush, the OSCE Head of Mission to Moldova.
“I also acknowledge the work done prior to the finalized agreement by the corresponding expert working group. The OSCE will continue to support the expert working groups in every way,” said Brush.
Brush also welcomed the two sides’ announcement that they had found common ground on several other issues related to the medical and communication sectors.
