OSCE supports jazz workshop and concerts in Tiraspol and Comrat
Ethno-Jazz Festival is one of the largest annual cultural events in Moldova. In 2013, the geographic scope of the Festival was expanded to cover for the first time Tiraspol and Comrat where OSCE –supported jazz workshops and concerts took place on 27 and 28 September.
On 27 September, a premiere concert for the audience on the left bank of the Dniester/Nistru River with the participation of two international jazz bands was held. Netnakisum band from Austria and World Kora trio with artists from the US, France and Mali performed together with the local band Liberty in the Culture Palace in Tiraspol. On the same day, some 50 students and teachers from the Rubinstein Musical College in Tiraspol enjoyed jamming with the Niccolo Faraci jazz trio from Italy.
On 28 September, Moldova’s autonomous territorial unit of Gagauzia for the first time hosted a concert performed by the Josho Stephen trio from Germany together with Nikorasong from Moldova.
“Music is one of the most effective forms of communication, encouraging dialogue and exchange of ideas and opinions,” said Ambassador Jennifer Brush, Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova. “Supporting these events on both banks of the Dniester/Nistru River and in Gagauzia we aim to build cultural bridges, promote diversity and interethnic tolerance.”
The activities in Tiraspol and Comrat were part of the the Ethno Jazz Festival of Moldova held since 2001. The OSCE Mission to Moldova has supported the Festival for the second year in a row.
