Election campaign workshop for women candidates

PRISTINA, 1 September 2000 - Up to 500 of the women candidates who will be contesting the forthcoming municipal elections are to receive training on local government and election campaigning over the next fortnight.
Ten separate workshops of one and one-half days duration will be conducted by four international trainers for women candidates of political parties, citizens initiatives and independent candidates. They will focus on the running of a political campaign and on the fundamentals of holding municipal office. Proposed topics include the political process, electoral system, communications, basic campaigning, dealing with the media and other issues of relevance.
The training workshops, which will take place from 4-8 September, represent a unique opportunity for the women of Kosovo, both in terms of gaining the knowledge and tools that will allow them to optimize their chances of being elected and of strengthening their understanding of democracy and their role in the municipalities.
The candidates, who will be nominated by their political parties, will be trained in each of the following regions on the following dates:
Gjilan/ Gnjilane - Tuesday and Wednesday, 5- 6 September (50 candidates)
Ferizaj/Urosevac - Tuesday and Wednesday, 5-6 September (50 candidates)
Mitrovica - Friday and Saturday, 8-9 September (100 candidates)
Peja/Pec - Monday and Tuesday, 11-12 September (50 candidates)
Gjakova/Dakovica - Monday and Tuesday, 11-12 September (50 candidates)
Prizren - Wednesday and Thursday, 13-14 September (50 candidates)
Rahovec/Orahovac - Wednesday and Thursday, 13-14 September (50 candidates)
Prishtina/Pristina - Saturday and Sunday, 16-17 September (100 candidates)
