Press briefing on civil and voter registration in Kosovo
PRISTINA 10 April 2000
PRISTINA, 10 April 2000 - Staff are getting ready to start the civil registration process in Kosovo. Hundreds of people are being trained to tackle everything, from taking identification photos to checking for fraudulent documents. As part of ongoing preparations for registration and a subsequent election, the Organization for Security and Co-operatoin in Europe will hold a media briefing to explain how documents and individual identities will be verified. Officials will also discuss measures that have been taken against using falsified documents or cheating with registration.
The registration process includes checking documents, as well as having photographs and fingerprints taken. This will allow for the distribution of identity cards and to provide, through fingerprints, a further means of verifying identity.
