This year’s OSCE Mediterranean Conference will be held in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, on 20-21 October 2015. The conference will take place at the Mövenpick Resort Dead Sea, Sweimeh.
Based on the assessment that the security of the OSCE area is inextricably linked to that of adjacent areas, including the Mediterranean, and that changes unfolding in the Mediterranean region may have a vast impact for the security in the OSCE region and beyond, the Conference will focus on “Common security in the Mediterranean region – challenges and opportunities”. This comprehensive approach will reflect the 40th anniversary of the 1975 Helsinki Final Act, which also addressed questions related to security and co-operation in the Mediterranean.
The meeting will begin with a broad, high-level political discussion on the security in the Mediterranean region (Session I). It will be followed by three thematic working sessions:
- Session II: Addressing violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism
- Session III: The role of interfaith/intercultural dialogue
- Session IV: Irregular migration, refugee protection, migrant smuggling and human trafficking in the Mediterranean
Participants will include representatives of the OSCE participating States, the OSCE Mediterranean Partners for Co-operation (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia), international organizations and NGOs.
Discussions can be followed on Twitter at @OSCE or using hashtag #OSCEMed.
