People at risk: combating human trafficking along migration routes

Where
The 15th Alliance against Trafficking in Persons conference “People at risk: combating human trafficking along migration routes” aims to further enhance the coherence of international efforts when addressing human trafficking in the context of migration processes through an open exchange of best practices and lessons learned. In particular, the conference will draw attention to the impact of state migration policies on trafficking in human beings, increasing risks of being trafficked during times of crisis, and the special vulnerability of unaccompanied minors on the move.
By focusing on the topical nexus between human trafficking and migration, the two-day event intends to build on other important OSCE efforts in this field, including the Annual Police Expert Meeting devoted to the links between Organized Crime, Trafficking in Human Beings and Irregular Migration (Belgrade, Serbia, 28-29 May 2015). Finally, the conference will serve as a privileged platform for enhanced co-operation among the OSCE participating States and Partners for Co-operation in the context of the implementation of their human trafficking and migration related OSCE commitments, as well as the recommendations of the OSCE Action Plan on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and its 2013 Addendum.
The conference is targeted at policy makers and experts from national authorities – including government representatives, national anti-trafficking co-ordinators and rapporteurs, national human rights institutions, parliamentarians, migration authorities and criminal justice experts – and other relevant stakeholders in the OSCE region such as international and regional organizations, NGOs, trade unions and academics.
Speakers include:
- Lamberto Zannier, Secretary General, OSCE
- Madina Jarbussynova, Special Representative and Co-ordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, OSCE
- Laura Thompson, Deputy Director General, International Organization for Migration
- Volker Türk, Assistant High Commissioner (Protection), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
