Ambassador Viorel Moșanu
Viorel Moșanu has an extensive diplomatic career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Romania. He served as Ambassador of Romania to Belarus from 2015 to 2021. Previously he was Deputy Head of Mission in the Romanian Embassy to Ukraine. He has also served as Deputy Head of Mission in the Romanian Embassy to Malaysia and subsequently worked in the Asia-Pacific Department of the MFA. In the early part of his career at the Romanian Foreign Ministry he worked in the Eastern Department, dealing with matters related to the Russian Federation, Ukraine, the South Caucasus and Central Asia.
Mandate
In collaboration with his counterparts from the United Nations and the European Union, the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the South Caucasus co-chairs the Geneva International Discussions to address the consequences of the 2008 war in Georgia. He also co-facilitates the meetings of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) in Ergneti, together with the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM). The co-chairs prepare for each round of the Geneva International Discussions by holding consultations with all participants and engage in related travel. The Special Representative also assumes other responsibilities regarding the South Caucasus upon assignment of the Chairpersonship.
